Nintendo's gotten a lot more love ever since the DS and Wii were a hit. But in the days of the Gamecube/XBox/PS2 console war.....yeeeeaaah, definitely underrated.

It has, but most of the gamers I talk to are more interested in Playstation or XBox. XD I think that might just be me though.

I believe that is mainly because the Nintendo franchise has shifted in many people's sights as a 'family game' group or has 'too many kiddy games', whereas the Xbox (mainly fps games) and Playstation (fps and other, non kiddy games) do not have as many. I have to say that I share that opinion, though there are good games on there. So you could almost add in the entirety of the Wii/DS games on the list of ones that are underrated besides the well known series.

I guess that's true. But my brother plays several games on the Wii that are certainly not childish(ie: Resident Evil) so I am kind of confused as to why Nintendo would be deemed childish?

I think because most of their well-known titles—Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, etc.—are seen as childish. You're right though, they have plenty of games that aren't, though some of these like Resident Evil also appear on the other consoles while the "childish" games are exclusive to Nintendo.
However Nintendo does have exclusive titles that I certainly wouldn't call childish, like Zelda and especially Metroid. But maybe rated "teen" just isn't as cool as "mature", or something.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Well in speaking from a teenager's perspective, we'd rather play something with a mature rating. It just seems like our instinct. XD I think it's because we expect more out of a mature game(other than gore and fanservice...). To be more specific, we looks at the storylines and such. We can expect a more detailed story with cool characters if the game is for adult's, while games that are for kids just offer a few levels with no degree of challenge.
Teenagers also have the tendency to want to grow up and be adults long before they're ready to. These types are often called the "rebellious teenager". So they feel by playing a game with limbs getting shot off somehow makes them a lot older/better than their parents. Again, I'm kind of on the inside with this and so far I find it to be true.
Going back to what I said before though, some games that have a mature lable do not always appeal to me. I have learned that just because it's rated mature, doesn't mean it's got a mature storyline to back it up. I've seen video games and movies with the most R stuff ever only to find they're plots are completely cliche. XD

(Why thank you Feathers I'd say you're probably right about teenagers XD. I think I went through that phase too, but just way earlier than everyone else, so by the time all these bloody fps games first became super popular I was over trying to be "adult" and didn't really see how making a game extremely violent made it good. However, not all of them were actually bad. From the few things I've seen of Halo it's got a great storyline and characters, and totally would have gotten it had I owned an XBox instead of a Gamecube. It's pretty funny though, from an adult's perspective (or maybe this is just me), I've been playing more of the E-rated sort of games than ever because nowadays, between college and trying to work out my comic's story, I just don't have time to get into a long game with a complex storyline. I still haven't gotten Zelda: Skyward Sword yet, and I probably won't until at least summer. However, I've been playing a bunch of Kirby and Megaman games on the Wii's Virtual Console instead because they're easier to play in short sporadic bursts. So, can you guys think of any specific Nintendo games (that aren't from Mario and their other popular franchises) that may be underrated? To be honest I'm drawing a blank at the moment XD

The only title I can vaguely consider is Kirby mainly because, again, no one really talks about it. Of course, if you go over to the Kirby fandom Internet hang out it's a much different story; they ALWAYS have something to whine about. Cough, well anyway, I think poor Kirby suffers from the same problem as much of the other games in that it looks childish.
Not only that, but the characters and game look rather simple and thus not very entertaining. I know when I first saw Kirby, I was wondering how a pink ball creature could have his own video game series. LOL

I see what you mean. Kirby is obviously popular and successful, based on the high ratings those games usually get and how well they sell, yet besides my brother I've never met anyone (in person) that actually plays a bunch of Kirby. Or at least they don't mention that they play Kirby.

OH! I just remembered! There was this game for the Nintendo DS that I loved in middle school called Meteos! That game was awesome! It was this alien-themed puzzle game where you would match up different colored blocks in either vertical or horizontal rows of 3 using the stylus to blast them off the screen. And different musical sound effects would happen when you did that depending on what level you were playing, and each level was a different kind of planet that would effect the game play in different ways (like the high gravity planet would make it harder to blast the meteos off, or on some planets they wouldn't blast off at all unless you lined them up horizontally, or on some the meteos would fall really slowly). I'm not one that usually raves over a puzzle game, even well-known ones like Tetris, but this game was SO fun. Whether it was its catchy sound track, playing its "story" mode with branching paths depending on how you beat the levels (sort of akin to Starfox 64 in that way, come to think of it), or just trying to beat my record in trial mode and get new high scores, I was occupied with this one for a long time (especially considering how much unlockable content there was). And for a game with a barely-there plot that doesn't really make sense anyway (XD), it has an amazing opening cutscene (at the time it was the best graphics I had ever seen on a DS). I'd recommend this to anyone, even if you're not much of a puzzle game person. Attachments:

lol really? I'm glad I'm not the only person who knows what this is XD I guess this technically isn't underrated considering the excellent reviews critics gave it, but I remember I'd mention it to my friends and they'd have never heard of it before or think it sounded weird or something. So kinda like Kirby, where it sells well and has a good reputation yet seems like I know very few people who also own it and play it.

So true. But I guess that's a good thing, otherwise you end up with another Sonic fandom where half of the fans love it and half the "fans" hate it(I don't understand this either...). XD If Kirby and this game remain good but also slightly hidden, then it means their fans are a bit more stable. :O
